Discretion scores over points in Arjuna Awards

The committee which recommends names of athletes for the country’s top two sporting honours,Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards, appears to have been given a lot of discretionary powers. This, in spite of the sports ministry having put an elaborate ‘points system’ in place,based on certain parameters to judge performances of deserving candidates.
