US 'likely' has taken over as the world's top oil producer

The US is 'likely' to have surpassed Russia as the world's biggest oil producer, according to the US government estimates. If those estimates are right, it would be the first time since 1973 that the US has led the world in output. US production jumped in recent years because of techniques including hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”.
